BC Children&Youth Connection Society Child Protection Policy

Last Updated: March 2026

1. Purpose

BC Children and Youth Connection Society (the “Society”) is committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all minors participating in its programs and activities. This Child Protection Policy establishes standards to safeguard children and youth from harm, abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all volunteers, board members, organizers, and any individuals interacting with minors through Society activities, whether in-person or online.

3. Code of Conduct with Minors

All adults and volunteers must maintain appropriate professional boundaries with minors. The following standards apply:

- Avoid unsupervised one-on-one interactions where possible.

- Communicate respectfully and transparently.

- Do not engage in inappropriate physical contact.

- Do not exchange private personal contact information without parental awareness.

- Do not engage in private social media messaging with minors without parental consent.

4. Mandatory Reporting

Any individual who suspects abuse, neglect, or inappropriate conduct involving a minor must report the concern immediately to the Society’s leadership and, where required by law, to appropriate authorities in British Columbia.

5. Anti-Bullying and Harassment

Bullying, harassment, discrimination, or intimidation—whether physical, verbal, emotional, or online—is strictly prohibited. Reports will be taken seriously and addressed promptly.

6. Online and Social Media Safety

Online interactions must follow the same safeguarding standards as in-person activities. Volunteers must ensure transparency in communication and avoid private unsupervised digital interactions.

7. Training and Awareness

The Society encourages volunteers and leadership members to familiarize themselves with child protection best practices and applicable safeguarding standards in British Columbia.

8. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure continued compliance with applicable laws and youth protection best practices.
