Hello, I am Chantelle Zhong, a student from Little Flower Academy in Vancouver. I’ve taught kids English for almost 3 years now. I enjoy teaching kids, and learning from the experience. Right now I’m participating in two other programs. One of them is helping students in China to learn English, and the other is a weekly reading program. I love spending time with kids! Outside of class time, I like skiing, dancing, listening to music and traditional Chinese culture, especially traditional clothing. When I am teaching other children, I want to make my class enjoyable, and make studying into a fun thing. I hope you all can find studying fun, and know that it’s not as boring as you may think. Hi! I’m Nicole Yue, currently a student from Steveston-London Secondary School. I enjoy reading, art, volunteering, and spending time with friends in my spare time. My future career goal is to become an elementary school teacher. I really enjoy spending time with younger children, and I think that making friends with them is a fascinating thing. Children often have different perspectives of the world, and it may sometimes be very inspiring to speak with them. In general, I have been volunteering for over three years now. Volunteering made me improve myself and meet a lot of people. I’m very thankful for having this opportunity to volunteer for our club. Looking forward to meeting you! 

My name is Lisa. I’m currently studying at Palmer Secondary. I have been a volunteer here at the club for a year now. I enjoy reading, and the knowledge and perspective that my reading has given me has strengthened my teaching skills and presentation abilities. Students often find me a creative person with great activity ideas, and a excellent listener. I’m looking forward to seeing you in my class. 

Hi, my name is Jeffery. I am a student studying at Prince of Wales Secondary. Some of my hobbies include basketball, listening to music, and badminton. I mostly listen to pop music, especially Chinese pop. I believe music is a great way to relax the body and the mind. I’ve always enjoyed playing basketball ever since I was a young child. It truly taught me the meaning of teamwork and perseverance. It always brings the same exhilaration to me every time I touch a ball. As a student myself, I adore courses such as mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

Hi, my name is Charleson. I am student currently studying at Southpointe Academy. Things I like to do in my free time is to sleep and play video games. Some of the games I play include Minecraft, Valorant, Genshin Impact, and Osu!. I also enjoy listening to a variety of different music. Some genres include rap, Chinese pop, English pop, lo-fi music, and Japanese pop. I’ve always had a passion to become a forensic pathologist, which makes me very interested in looking at murder scenes, watching videos on corpse analysis, and also read autopsies when I am bored.

Hi, my name is Andy Wang. I am a student at Steveston-London Secondary School. During my free time, I like to read comics and novels. I also like to play video games as well. I like to sketch and play instruments. I have been taking sketching lessons for about 8 years. The instrument I play is the cello. I have been playing the cello for about 8 years too. My favourite composer of all time is Gabriel Fauré; I love the music he has written. One of my favourite ones is the “Après un Rêve” (After a Dream). It is really beautiful. The personality I think of myself as having is kind of introverted. I don’t like to talk with people I am unfamiliar with, but I can talk a lot when I am with my friends or people I know. Even though I am kind of introverted, I think I can still perform well in the classes, and become a good student teacher

Hi, I am Mersara, a student from Lord Byng Secondary. I really like to bake. I enjoy both the process and the result of baking. Now, I am not only a teacher of English reading class, but also I am the owner of an online bakery shop. Doing this volunteer job increases my social ability. By teaching, I could also improve my English quickly. I hope that my students could learn things from me, and we can improve together!

I'm Ricky, a student from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. I am now a French student and also very fluent in English. I can also speak Chinese, which might help. I enjoy reading, drawing, and playing my piano, which I practice about every day. In school, I generally excel in math and science. I also do very well in English, Social studies, Art, and Music. I can easily communicate with a younger audience; I often talk with people younger than me. So generally, I am a very well rounded person. Hope to see you soon!

Hi, I am Ashely Shen. I am a student at Prince of Wales Secondary School. Also, this is my second year volunteering at BC-Youth Reading Club. Being an international student coming from China, I am bilingual in both English and Mandarin. However, this skill helps me to connect with parents of students. When I first volunteered for BC-Youth, I was a teacher for an English reading class providing to children from Kindergarten to Grade 2. Currently, I am a monitor for another English class, and I am passionate about providing greater classes for our program. Furthermore, it is a great honour to have volunteer experiences here and cooperating with peers!

My hobbies are reading novels, watching TV shows and playing video games. I am good at communicating with others, and I have good self-independence ability.
