Many students ask: Why do plants require sunlight to grow? Why do oceans have waves? Why is the sky blue? Whether it is organisms, chemicals, landforms, or gravity, science is everywhere in the world around us. There is always knowledge to be learned and experiments to be carried out.
The class structure will be following the Science 8 and Science 9 curriculum and some additional resources! The main ideas include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. Students will not be expected to do a lot of homework as this is a preview course, but please do expect some questions once in a while.
Our grade 3-6 science club will promote children’s interests in this magic by showing different components of science in our daily lives and other fun facts.

Why do plants require sunlight to grow? Why do oceans have waves? Why do salmon travel so far back to their spawning grounds? Everything around us can be described through science! In reality, science is just a sneaky explanation for things we can observe. The change of a caterpillar to the butterfly or the growth of a tree from a seed may seem like magic. Our grades 3-6 courses aims to promote children’s interests in science by showing how it is integrated in our daily lives through presentations and fun facts!

Hi! My name is David, and this is my fourth year here at BC Youth. Science has always been my favourite subject in school, which, beyond my passion for the subject, also owes heavily to the enthralling ways my teachers taught it. Being able to walk in their footsteps and work alongside other passionate teachers to design and teach our own science class has been a dream come true for me, and all the other teachers here as well (of course, it also looked pretty good on my uni applications). With my time here at BC Youth, I hope to share my passion for science and inspire more and more people to wonder and discover how the world around us works. Beyond BC Youth, some of my favourite pastimes include playing cello and piano, writing arrangements of my favourite songs, and suffering from senioritis. I am also an avid enjoyer of peach yogurt!
