Welcome to Science!

Hi! My name is David, and this is my fourth year here at BC Youth. Science has always been my favourite subject in school, which, beyond my passion for the subject, also owes heavily to the enthralling ways my teachers taught it. Being able to walk in their footsteps and work alongside other passionate teachers to design and teach our own science class has been a dream come true for me, and all the other teachers here as well (of course, it also looked pretty good on my uni applications). With my time here at BC Youth, I hope to share my passion for science and inspire more and more people to wonder and discover how the world around us works. Beyond BC Youth, some of my favourite pastimes include playing cello and piano, writing arrangements of my favourite songs, and suffering from senioritis. I am also an avid enjoyer of peach yogurt!

Hi! My name is Tyler Li and I am an 11th grader currently attending Burnaby South Secondary School. Some of my hobbies include piano and reading! Although I like most subjects in school, I really enjoy science, biology in particular, and english. I hope that my own experiences as a student will be used to help more people learn about science and I'm looking forward to meeting and teaching you all! 

 Hi! My name is Yaro Meng, and I’m currently an 11th grader at McMath Secondary School. I have a passion for basketball and video games. While I have a broad interest in many subjects, my favourite areas are science—especially physics—and math. I’m passionate about sharing what I learn and hope to inspire others to see the fun side of science. I’m really looking forward to meeting and teaching all of you! 

 My name is Johnny, which is short for Jonathan, I am currently in Grade 11 and I go to RC Palmer Secondary School. I have a variety of hobbies, those of which include painting, cooking, and going to the gym. Among the various sciences I study, biology stands out as my favorite as I find myself deeply fascinated by the complexities of nature and how living organisms interact with their environments. 

 Hi, my name is Anwen Li (I normally go by Anne), and I’m currently a student at JN Burnett Secondary. My favourite subjects are Science and Drama, though I’m alright with most others. In my free time, I enjoy reading, doodling, and playing DnD with my friends—I’m a half-elf bard In my current campaign! I also play piano and love badminton, even though I play it casually. Tutoring is something I’m really excited about because I enjoy helping others and sharing my knowledge. Outside of school, you can usually find me volunteering, spending time with my younger brother, or trying to keep my plants alive (I have a black thumb). I look forward to meeting everyone! 

 My name is Edward and I’m currently in grade 10. My hobbies include drumming and playing basketball. I play percussion instruments at school and drum kit at home. Drumming is very fun for me since it is usually very energetic and fast paced. I also enjoy playing basketball since it is also energetic and fast. Although I’m not on my school’s basketball team, I still play the game pretty often. I go to a basketball club outside of school where I can practice. I am excited to teach in the Bc youth community. 

  Hello all, I am James Wu from Hugh McRoberts Secondary School. Whenever possible, I enjoy going on long distance runs. Going on routine jogs allows me to escape from stress while at the same time benefiting me in the form of exercise. I also enjoy coding all sorts of things. I can more or less use Python, Javascript, Java, and HTML + CSS. I also like to listen to music in my free time. I like all sorts of Asian pop including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean pop. 

Hi, my name is Kevan, and I am from Richmond Secondary School. During my free time, I enjoy bullet journaling, taking notes, and designing websites. I also enjoy photography, and I usually take pictures whenever I go on a walk or run around Richmond. Another one of my hobbies includes teaching and making music; I have been active in playing for concert bands and solo piano. I run the newspaper at my school, and I am passionate about current events and new media. I am able to help and tutor anyone who is struggling or eager to learn more about Science. I excited to get to know you all better!

Hello, I'm  Emma, a student from Richmond Secondary School. My favourite thing to do when I’m alone is to relax and listen to music. When I listen to music, I feel like I have become the main character of a story that belongs to not anyone else, but me. Music has been around me since I was little. It was what brought me the passion and interest to learn about different cultures and countries, as well as to learn another language, Korean. I think the charisma of languages is that not only can they help us with our daily communications, but also to express our emotions and feelings non-abstractly. Although I enjoy spending time with myself, I also like to interact and meet new people and push myself to try new things that I’ve never tried before. In this case, it is to join the BC Children and Youth Connection Society. I can’t wait to meet and share my knowledge with you guys!

Hi, my name is Audrey, and I am from Richmond Secondary School. In my free time, I like creating digital designs, going on walks with friends and family, teaching myself new skills, and learning new things. I also enjoy playing badminton, which I have played for over five years. Alongside that, I have a passion for science, math and different forms of art. In the past, I have volunteered for various community events, and organizations. These experiences have sparked my interest in volunteering, and contributing to the community. I hope that this program will be a great learning opportunity for everyone!

Hello, my name is Jimbo, and I am from Richmond Secondary School. I enjoy doing a variety of activities, including playing video games at home. I spend my time playing games such as Valorant and osu!. In addition, I also play chess and the piano. I enjoy playing pieces that are for my own satisfaction as well as focusing on exam repertoires to achieve my goals. Ever since I finished my ARCT music theory and history, my dedication increased towards completing ARCT. In school, the main subjects I focus on are mathematics and sciences as they both interest me and are also the main subjects for my future education. Lastly, I occasionally pick up my Rubik’s cube, where I can solve it under 15 seconds. I am most of the time a nice and interactive person, with a very dedicated mind for things I admire. I hope to a bring positive learning experience, and will look forward meeting you guys!

Hello, my name is Vivian Lu, a grade 10 student from Richmond Secondary School. During my free time I love to read, draw, go for walks, and listen to music. Additionally, I'm always exploring new learning opportunities. My favourite subjects in school are science, math, and art as I’m very interested and passionate about learning them. Aside from English, I'm also fluent in Mandarin. I’m looking forward to volunteering as a tutor, and would love to teach anyone with an interest in learning!

Hi! My name is Tyler, and I am attending Burnaby South Secondary School. In school, my favourite subjects are Science, Math, and English; although, I do enjoy all of the subjects. I play piano and I’m working on preparing for my ARCT exam. I enjoy playing all of my repertoires, and I also play more modern, contemporary pieces too. My favourite pieces to play are "Morning Passages" by Philip Glass, and "Storm" by Eric Radford. As well to playing piano, I also do karate. I am a brown belt, and I help out younger kids, developing my leadership skills. I want to become a volunteer tutor here because I really enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge with others. I hope that you will learn more about science with our courses!

Hi, I'm David, a student from U-Hill Secondary in Vancouver. I like classical music, and by classical music I mean music from the late 1600s to the mid 1900s. I also like non-copyrighted background music. I'm decent at piano and cello and excel in slide whistle. I have a cat that hates me, as most cats do. I have a drawing tablet, but I can't draw. I enjoy playing precisely zero sports. I also don't like most things sweet. Onto subjects, I guess. I like Math, Science, English, Social Studies, pretty much everything, honestly. I'll be volunteering for the Science Club. Join if you want. That should just about do it, I would imagine. See you potentially some time in the future. 

Hey there! I’m Larisse Zhao, a student at St. Michaels University School in Victoria, British Columbia. I enjoy volunteering and teaching others and have had many leadership opportunities in the past. I hope to make a positive impact on everyone I meet and make sure that everyone leaves the classes I teach with knowledge and a good grasp of the concepts. I enjoy doing ballet, playing the piano, and playing multiple sports. In my free time, you can find me composing music, going out for a run in nature, or hanging out with my beloved dog :)

Hello, My name is Ethan Li, and I currently go to Hugh Boyd Secondary. My favourite subjects are Science and Math. Some other things about me are I like fencing and reading. I have been fencing four times a week for two years. Fencing has made me realize that as long as I persist in doing one thing, I will definitely make progress. My favourite books are Battle Royal, Fahrenheit 451, and The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. I also love cats and pizzly bears. The pizzly bear is my favourite animal because it’s a showcase of what human sciences can do with nature. Lastly, I wanted to become a volunteer tutor because I like learning new things and I want to become a teacher in the future, so this is a great learning experience.

Hey, I'm Yaro, a student from McMath Secondary School in Richmond. I like to travel, and I have been to more than 20 countries. During my free time, I like to play basketball and read. My favourite subjects are Math and Science, but I am a well-rounded student. I am an independent and outgoing person. I am willing to share joy with people around me and show sympathy to people in need. I look forward to see you in class in the future!

"Hi, my name is Kaela and I go to Hugh Boyd Secondary school! My favourite subject in school is science, but I especially like chemistry! I would love to pursue dentistry in the future, so I actually enjoy all sciences! Outside of school, I play piano and I’m working on completing RCM level 10 piano and theory. My favourite hobbies are reading, listening to music and watching shows. Volunteering is another passion of mine because I like experiences where I can help others!"

My favourite hobby is making ceramics, and I figure that I have a huge passion for it. Making pottery not only helps me build new skills but also improves my concentration and creativity skills. I have been doing pottery for about three years now, and I absolutely love it because it is an escape from the real world, allowing me to create something beautiful and meaningful. Among all subjects, physics is my favourite. Although the process of understanding the concepts can be quite difficult, I really enjoy challenging myself and succeeding, which gives me the confidence in my abilities to exceed my limits. This is my first time volunteering, and it sparked my interest to contribute more to the community. I am very glad I participated in this volunteering opportunity, and I hope to make a positive contribution to this program.
