Hello, I am Melody Gao, a student from Richmond Secondary and a teacher in the Mandarin club. As a Chinese native speaker, my everyday life involves speaking and reading mandarin. In the 2021 AP Chinese Language and Culture exam, I scored the full 5 points. In my free time I enjoy connecting with friends, playing games, and reading. Having taught a class in the past school year, I gained more experience as well as confidence. I hope this program provides an opportunity for anyone who is eager to learn. I am excited to meet you!

I'm Nicole Zhang, a student from Richmond Secondary School. In my spare time, I enjoy drawing and interacting with friends! I can speak and read Mandarin fluently. I have been volunteering in BC Youth Mandarin Club as a Mandarin tutor and for 100+ hours. This program is a great opportunity to improve communication skills and build leadership. I wish to create a fun learning environment and help children to gain more knowledge in Chinese language and culture. I look forward to meeting you!

I'm a student at Maple Hill Secondary School. I’m good at math and physics. Also, I like Chinese. In my spare time, I prefer to play board games and video games with my friends. Last year, I taught Grade 2 and Grade 3 students Mandarin. During the process of teaching, I gradually learned how to talk to students and manage the class. I hope next year I’ll do better on making classes more interesting.

Hello, my name is Athena Shi. I am a Chinese teacher from BC Youth Chinese group. My Chinese is very fluent, because I completed Chinese education from grade 1 to grade 7 in China. If I have the opportunity to teach the students, I will share all kinds of Chinese culture with the students, including people's living habits, Chinese food and a lot of knowledge about China while teaching the knowledge in the textbooks. I will be very happy to work with the students. In my free time, I will do something about my hobbies. I have many hobbies, including singing, drawing, playing badminton. They make me feel pretty nice during my free time. After the rest, I will continue to work hard.

My name is Chloe Law, and I am a student from Richmond Secondary School. My goal is to be a wise and trusted teacher in the future. I can speak Mandarin and Cantonese. I have volunteered in BC Youth Mandarin in the last semester, and I love working with children and making good relationships with them. I have good interpersonal and problem-solving skills, so I can easily understand children. I feel comfortable connecting and dealing with others, which is a significant responsibility of my job. This program is an excellent chance to develop my leadership and improve my teamwork. I wish I could gain my experience and share Chinese culture and history with more children. Hello, my name is Sophia, and I am a student who is currently studying at Richmond secondary school. Currently, I am volunteering as a Chinese teacher in BC Youth Volunteer Chinese Club. I am looking forward to the following participation and experience, and I hope I can help my students and simultaneously improve my communication skill. I am creative and have a solid ability to learn. I often do things in a different and new way to make them more colourful and dynamic. Creativity is significant in human history, and it is a crucial element to discover further information and promote human culture. Moving on, I am a fast learner who can adapt to new skills and knowledge that allows me to apply them almost immediately. I always try my best and put as much effort as possible into working and studying to show respect and responsibility for my work. My favourite subject at school is science, even though it is difficult due to the rigour and the considerable amount of information. The reason why I like it is related to my further aspiration. I wanted to know about our earth and how it functions. I assume that being a human, we should know our land and ourselves. Science would give me the answer that I am looking for.

My name is Lucy, and I’m a student at Richmond Secondary school. I am a lively and cheerful person who is good at helping others and has a strong learning ability.I am very glad to teach children Chinese here and tell them the breadth and depth of China.I'm teaching Chinese in the elementary class now. I enjoy teaching Chinese to children.I received Chinese education in China until Grade 4-5 of Elementary school. I have a certain foundation. Now I'm a part of the volunteer activities of  the BC Youth Volunteer English Club. I also have many hobbies, singing, dancing, painting, musical instruments... While teaching the children, I am improving myself too!

My name is Diana, and I am a student at Richmond Secondary School. I have a great interest in Chinese culture, and I spend lots of time studying the culture. This encourages my Chinese to improve in oral (speaking/listening), writing, and reading. This is my second year in the Chinese Club, and I gained lots of experience during teaching. I am Emily Liu, a student from Lord Byng Secondary School in Vancouver, B.C. I grew up in Shanghai and studied Chinese there until fourth grade and went to an international school in Korea for four years which also has Chinese as a mandatory course. Now, I am taking Mandarin 11 online at VSB, and I can write, read, and speak Mandarin fluently. I like to read Chinese novels and poems. Also, I feel proud that I know Mandarin and Chinese history and culture which give me this chance to share my knowledge with others. I wish that I can grow with my students and as well help them learn the beauty of Mandarin and Chinese culture.

My name is Joyce Zhu; I was born in China and moved to Canada in 2014. Currently, I am volunteering in the Chinese department. In addition, I am also participating in the YouthToSea Ocean Conversation program – under the Ocean Wise Conservation Association – that teaches teenagers about a variety of topics including marine animals and ocean pollution. In the future, I wish to continue my learning in the field of business. My hobbies are playing sports, drawing, and reading. I hope everyone enjoys learning with us!
